mmh, lately, those following me on twitter may have noticed a serie of blogs being linked...
This topic is too big to be just talked about on twitter.
I'm right now an apple unhappy customer who used to look forward moving to the google phone because, most likely, it was an open source platform.
however, badness occurred with the cyanogen mod cease and desist.
This blog explains the situation rather well :
phandroid.com/2009/09/25/eff-google-screw-android-the-backlash-begins/google's reason was explained a bit later, and it does make sense they had to react but, a cease and desist? maybe too quick. see about it yourself :
phandroid.com/2009/09/25/google-responds-to-cyanogen-uproar/yes, same blog ; if you don't know what cyanogen is, basically, it is a mod that runs much faster than the normal google phone os.
you can look it up at
www.cyanogenmod.com/there was even a Hitler video on this one... that's how bad this is.
Oh well, things seems to have evolved fast, and it may well be that cyanogen may continue to exist, it looks like google isn't happy with youtube, gmail and the likes being present in their distribution.
there's still hope! but is this a race to the one who'll do the most wrong things between google and apple? geesh.
